UFA Update: December 20, 2013

As the year draws to a close, UFA is taking this time to reflect on the past fishing season and legislative session. Thank you to everyone who stopped by the UFA booth at Pacific Marine Expo this year! Thanks to the help of numerous member group volunteers, UFA picked up a record 40?? new members in the three day period. UFA welcomes our new members who help keep this great organization afloat.

Press Release: UFA Publishes Community Fishing and Seafood Processing Fact Sheets (December 16, 2013)

The statewide commercial fishing umbrella association United Fishermen of Alaska has released its updated set of fishing data sheets for major Alaska communities and boroughs. UFA is seeking to provide UFA groups, members, and the public with economic information about the seafood industry to illustrate the industry’s significance in their communities. New with this year's edition are summary fact sheets for Alaska statewide and Washington State.

Press Release: UFA Responds to AFCA Action to Reallocate Salmon Through Initiative (November 12, 2013)

United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA), the statewide commercial fishing industry trade association representing 36 member organizations, is deeply concerned about the Alaska Fisheries Conservation Alliance (AFCA) efforts to ban salmon fishing gear in urban areas in Alaska. Written in legislative bill format, the AFCA initiative is titled: “An Act providing for the protection and conservation of Alaska’s fisheries by prohibiting shore gill nets and set nets in nonsubsistence areas.”
