UFA Update: October 19, 2015

It’s that time of year! United Fishermen of Alaska will be convening our semi-annual fall board meeting in Petersburg at the Sons of Norway Hall October 27th, 28th & 29th. At this meeting we will hold a session on seafood industry taxes and fees and Alaska’s fiscal future. The purpose of this session is to have a proactive discussion regarding the role of the seafood industry in the current budget climate. In addition to the fiscal session, UFA will also discuss agenda items including statewide, national, environmental, hatchery, marketing, and subsistence. UFA board meetings are open to paid UFA members and guests, except during executive session.

United Fishermen of Alaska and the Alaska Independent Tenderman’s Association will host a seafood reception with traditional Petersburg fare on Tuesday, October 27th at 6 p.m. at the Elks Lodge. This reception is sponsored by Petersburg Vessel Owners Association, Southeast Alaska Seiners Association, United Southeast Alaska Gillnetters, Icicle Seafoods, Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation, Southeast Alaska Fishermen’s Alliance, Alaska Trollers Association, and Alaska Longline Fishermen’s Association.

Location: Sons of Norway Hall, 23 S Sing Lee Alley, downtown Petersburg.

Coffee and light breakfast snacks will be available every morning at 7:30 am. Breakfast snacks sponsored by Petersburg Chamber. Bottled water provided by Petersburg Borough. 

Monday, Oct 26th
UFA board members and some guests arrive in Petersburg.
Downtown businesses open from 9:30 am – 5:30 pm.
6:30 pm – Icicle Seafoods Meet & Greet: black cod and ribs dinner & drinks for UFA members and guests. Location: PFI Cookhouse, across from Icicle Seafoods downtown.

Tuesday, Oct 27th @ 8 am
8 am – Welcome address and introductions.
8:30 am – UFA internal discussion on seafood industry taxes and fees.
Morning break sponsored by Icicle Seafoods.
Noon – working lunch: ADF&G budget & topics discussion, Lt. Governor’s office topics. Lunch sponsored by Lee’s Clothing, Petersburg Pilot & UFA
3 pm – Begin tax and fee session and presentations with invited guests.
Afternoon break sponsored by United Southeast Alaska Gillnetters.
6 pm – UFA & AITA hosted reception. Location: Elks Lodge downtown, 301 N. 1st Street.

Wednesday, Oct 28th @ 8 am
8 am to 11 am – Continued tax and fee session.
Morning break sponsored by Glo Wollen, Petersburg Harbormaster.
11 am – Tax and fee session invited guests leave for airport.
Noon – working lunch: CFEC audit.
Lunch sponsored by Ocean Beauty Seafoods & UFA
1 pm to 5 pm – Continued agenda items including statewide, national, environmental, hatchery, marketing and subsistence.
Afternoon break sponsored by Glo Wollen, Petersburg Harbormaster; Mark Jensen, Borough Mayor; Ronn Buschmann, F/V Spirit.
5 pm – Admin Committee meeting
6 pm – Alaska National Ocean Science Bowl Petersburg team fundraiser, enchilada dinner $20 per person. Location: Moose Lodge downtown, 15 Fram Street.

Thursday, Oct 29th @ 8 am
Continued agenda items including statewide, national, environmental, hatchery, marketing and subsistence.
Noon – working lunch

5 pm – Conclude UFA semi-annual fall board meeting.
