The United Fishermen of Alaska (UFA), the largest statewide commercial fishing industry trade association representing 36 member organizations, is pleased to announce the selection of Mr. Kevin Adams as Chairman of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) Board of Directors. This is the first time a commercial fisherman has held this position in over a decade.
Mr. Adams has over 38 years of commercial fishing experience in Bristol Bay. He has an extensive background in seafood marketing and has served as an advocate for commercial fishermen throughout the State. Originally appointed to the ASMI Board of Directors as the Harvester representative by Governor Frank Murkowski in 2004, Mr. Adams has distinguished himself in that role ever since. Recognizing his achievements since being appointed, the ASMI Board unanimously elected him Chairman during their May 9, 2013 meeting in Anchorage. Chairman Adams will replace outgoing Chairman Joe Bundrant, of Trident Seafoods.
Fellow ASMI Board member and current UFA President Bruce Wallace had this to say about Adams’ appointment: “I have known Kevin for decades. He is a strong leader, an effective advocate for Alaska’s fishing men and women, and a passionate crusader for Alaska-branded seafood. Whether he’s helping to develop new product forms, or showcasing Alaskan product on the world’s stage at the Brussels Seafood Show, Kevin will be tireless in his efforts to maintain Alaska’s position as the premier seafood producing region in the world.”
In addition to his work in Bristol Bay and with ASMI, Mr. Adams has served as the UFA At-large Board representative since 2011 and was recently elected to his second two-year term. UFA’s four At-large Board seats represent the Association’s roughly 400 individual and lifetime members on the UFA Board, providing a voice to those who are not otherwise affiliated with a UFA member organization.
